How to Build a Small Windmill

Windmills are simple but entertaining toys. You can easily make a small windmill using just a few simple steps. Best of all, you can use items around the house in your creation. If you'd like, this is a craft you can easily do with children as well.

  • Square sheets of paper
  • Straw
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Paper fastener
  • Bead

      Fold the paper along the diagonal to form a triangle. Then fold it in half to form a smaller triangle.

      Unfold the paper. There should be two creases along the diagonals of the paper.

      Cut along the creases, stopping 1 inch before you reach the center.

      Use a sharp pencil to make a hole in the center of the paper. Then use the pencil to make a sharp hole on one side of each corner.

      Gently fold each corner toward the center of the paper so that the holes line up with the center hole. Push the paper fastener through all of the holes.

      Add a bead to the end of the paper fastener.

      Poke a hole in the side of the straw. Then add the straw to the end of the paper fastener and fold the sides of the fastener back.

  • You can make your windmill move by blowing on it or moving it through the air.
