This two-strand fringe necklace is interesting because it has one large focal bead with an added touch of fringe. Be sure you choose an eye-catching bead for this central position in the necklace.

While this necklace looks complicated, it is not beyond the ability of someone with basic jewelry-making skills. Make this necklace the colors and length that suits your own personal tastes and wear it happily after you finish it.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 focal bead
  • 10 grams seed beads (size 11)
  • 10 furnace beads (6 mm)
  • 20 bicone crystal beads (3 mm)
  • 50 assorted filler beads (various colors, shapes, and sizes)
  • Beading wire (.015 gauge)
  • 4 crimp beads
  • 20 spacer beads (4 mm)
  • Crimping pliers
  • Wire cutters
  1. Step 1

Cut 2 35-inch lengths of beading wire and hold them together for stringing.

  2. Step 2

Place three filler beads onto the beading wires and center them on the wires.

  3. Step 3

Start to string beads on one side of the beads strung in Step 2. Separate the two wires and string an assortment of seed beads and filler beads on both wires. After adding approximately two inches of beads, add a filler bead placed onto both wires together.

  4. Step 4

Repeat Step 3 on the other side of the three filler beads strung in Step 2.

  5. Step 5

Continue adding seed beads and filler beads in the same method on both sides of the original three beads until beads fill all but six inches of wire on both ends.

  6. Step 6

String a filler bead onto both ends of the beading wires. Separate the wires and add six seed beads to each wire (four wires). Add another filler bead and six more seed beads. Add one more seed bead and a bicone crystal bead to each end of the wires.

  7. Step 7

Add six more seed beads onto each wire and then add one spacer bead onto all four wires together.

  8. Step 8

Add a furnace bead, another spacer bead, a filler bead, your special focal bead, and another spacer bead to all four wires together.

  9. Step 9

Make the 4-fringe bottom of the necklace by adding seed beads to each of the four wires separately now. Add a filler bead and a spacer bead to the wires at varying intervals along the remaining beading wire of the four strands. When the wires are full except for two remaining inches of wire, place a crimp bead, two more seed beads, a small filler bead, and another seed bead onto each wire.

  10. Step 10

Loop the beading wire around the last seed bead and back up through the last filler bead, the two seed beads, the crimp bead, and at least one seed bead. Pull the wires tight through the beads on the fringe and crimp the crimp beads with the crimping pliers. Trim excess beading wires to complete the beaded fringe necklace.

Tips & Warnings
  • There is no closure clasp on this necklace because it is long enough to slip over the head.
