Things You'll Need:
- Graphic images/pictures
- Card stock
- Overhead projector sheets
- Sharp craft knife
- Small craft scissors
-
Step 1
Select a picture that is easily recognizable by its silhouette. Remember that when making a stencil you will be creating a likeness of the image, but fine details may be lost. Intricate details such as facial features or the individual petals of a flower may need to be painted on by hand after the stencil dries.
-
Step 2
Browse images in Print Shop or another graphic program you have on your computer. There are many to choose from, and you will surely find something you like. Children's coloring books and pictures books also contain bold outlined images that are ideal for creating stencils.
-
Step 3
Scan or photocopy the image you desire and print it out on card stock. For longer lasting stencils, have them printed on overhead projector sheets at your local printer. This will cost a few dollars, but the stencil will be washable and will last for many uses.
-
Step 4
Use a craft knife to cut the image out of the card stock or the overhead sheet. Use caution to cut evenly and smoothly along all lines. Trim jagged or rough edges with a pair of small craft scissors.
