How to Stand When Hitting a Golf Ball
The stance is the most important thing to learn when you are learning how to golf. If your stance is not correct for the iron or driver you are using, you will not get the distance or the correct swing or connection with the ball. Practice your stance in front of a mirror with the short iron, a 5-wood and a 3-wood. Practicing every day for about a month should help you learn the correct way to stand when hitting a golf ball.

1
Place your feet together and stand straight. Place your club in the air at an upward position in front of you so that the short iron is level to the top of your head. Keep your elbows at your side.
-
2
Bend at the waist, bringing the club and your arms to a downward position. Keep your feet together, and place the club behind the ball. Allow your arms to hang down and not outward.

3
Bend at the knees, but only a slight bend. Your weight should be on the heel and the ball of each foot. This will now drop the club directly down behind the golf ball. You may need to move forward or backward so the club is directly behind the center of the golf ball. Move your feet apart. About shoulder width is the correct way to place the feet.
-
4
Use the short iron first. The ball should be centered to sit between the distance of your feet. When using the 5-wood, the ball should be just to the front center of the left foot. With the 3-wood, the ball should be by the front-right foot, just inside.

Practice this stance and positioning of the club and ball every day. It could take some time before you are ready for a game, but a driving range will benefit you. You can practice your stance and your swing to see what your initial distance is, and then you can improve.
