Instructions

    • 1

Talk to an Air Force recruiting officer and let this person know that you want to attend Officer Training School. Gather all of the necessary paperwork, fill it out and begin getting all necessary signatures. Get all of your required personal paperwork as well.

    • 2

Begin planning for your tour of duty at Maxwell Air Force Base as soon as you've been accepted into the OTS program. The OTS program does not allow smoking or chewing tobacco, so if you smoke or chew, quit right away.

    • 3

If you're married and plan to have your spouse and children move to Maxwell with you, secure off-base housing for them. Make sure your spouse and children are enrolled in DEERS (Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System).

    • 4

Work on physical training and make sure your weight is within the Air Force's standards. If you need to lose or gain weight to meet these standards, alter your diet and physical training regimen accordingly.

    • 5

Check your paperwork once again to make sure you have everything required. Reserve your room in the OTS dormitory--all OTS students are required to live in the dorms while in OTS, even those who are married. Verify your authorization to eat in the base dining facility--you need your orders for this.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may wish to hand-carry your paperwork from office to office to ensure you get all of the required signatures and so the paperwork doesn't get lost.

  • Bring a padlock with you to secure belongings in the security drawer in your dorm room. Bring your own bath towels and washcloths.
