Step 1
Wear the most comfortable shoes you own. In order to find comfortable shoes, you may be shopping for a couple of hours, so wear the most comfortable pair of shoes you own to prevent you from feeling bogged down or giving up on your task. One way to prevent feeling overwhelmed is to shop at stores you're familiar with as far as sizes, quality and product.
-
Step 2
Know what style of shoes you're looking for. Is your goal shoes for the office? Weekend shoes? Shoes for attending a wedding? Have a clear idea of what type of shoes you're looking for to make the shopping process a little easier on yourself. This will prevent you from being distracted by other shoes or products you don't immediately need.
-
Step 3
Shop for shoes with a low heel. The most comfortable shoes (and the ones that are least harsh on your feet and lower back) are those with a low heel. A kitten heel or short, stacked heel are both great options, especially for footwear you'll wear to the office. These provide some height, allowing a clean, long line to be created for your silhouette, but provide ample support for your feet.
-
Step 4
If you want something higher, opt for a stacked heel. A high heel is what many women want to wear all day every day, but the pain that can come with them is less than desirable. If you want a higher heel for the office or functions where you'll be on your feet for a long duration of time, look for a stacked heel. The thickness of the heel distributes your weight more evenly, taking pressure off your feet.

Step 5
Find stilettos that fit properly. A misconception is that stilettos, or any very high heel, cannot be comfortable. The real issue is most women aren't wearing the correct size of shoe. Like with bras, pants or anything else we wear, you most likely are not one size across the board, so try your shoes on before you buy. If you shop online, look for stores that offer free returns in case the shoe does not fit like a glove. Stilettos should be allow the foot to move in the shoe, but fit snug enough that there is no slipping out of the shoe.
