Get your hair under the hot water. This is a natural remedy that should quickly wash out some of the color. Washing hair in hot water opens up the hair cuticles, releasing color. Because of the high acid content, hot oil treatments, including extra virgin olive oil, can also strip hair color. Semi-permanent dyes are less damaging to the hair and normally wash out within 8 to 10 shampoos.

Read the ingredients on the shampoo bottle label. Shampoos with ammonium laurel sulfate wash away hair color faster. It may take several shampoos, but dandruff shampoos and dish detergents can be harsh on chemically colored hair. The more frequently you shampoo your hair, the more the hair dye will fade. Keep in mind, though, that while fading color, these products are also deconditioning your hair.

Use cotton balls or a spray bottle to apply 70 percent isopropyl alcohol to your hair. This method is used to fade henna-based hair dyes. Wait about 5 minutes and then saturate your hair with mineral oil. Cover your head with a plastic shower cap and sit under a hair dryer for about 30 minutes, or use a blow dryer with a diffuser. Avoid getting either the alcohol or mineral oil directly onto your scalp.

Try using a volumnizing or hair styling product to fade the color of hair dye. Hair gels and sprays coat the strands of hair, preventing the hair color from being absorbed.

5
Go outdoors and sit in the sun. Too much exposure to sunlight will usually fade hair color faster, but be sure to take the proper precautions to protect your skin from the ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Tips & Warnings
It takes about 48 hours for a chemical hair color to set in, so you may have time to wash out much of the dye if you act fast. Deep condition your hair to restore moisture after using any color stripping technique.
It is not a good idea to use lemon juice to lighten chemically treated hair. Lemon juice is acidic and can damage hair by making it brittle if used too often.
