Tired of having to enter a password every time you sign in to Windows XP? Many computer users find it inconvenient to have a sign-in password, especially if no one else uses the computer. Knowing how to remove a sign-in password eludes some users. The following steps will work for removing any account sign-in password on Windows XP, but they also require you be logged in as an administrator.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click "Start" in the lower left-hand corner of the screen while on your desktop. This will open your Start menu. Make sure you don't have any programs open.

  2. Step 2

Click "Control Panel" from your Start menu. This will open your Windows Control Panel.

  3. Step 3

Click "User Accounts" from the Control Panel window.

  4. Step 4

Click on the account you wish to remove the password for in the bottom area of the User Accounts window when it opens. See the image here if you are unsure where to look or are unsure you are in the right spot. This will open the settings window for that account.

  5. Step 5

Select "Remove my password" from the list of options in the window. See the image here for an example. This will not automatically remove your password. It will open an identity verification window.

  6. Step 6

Enter your current password in the text field. Click "Remove password." Your password is now removed.

Tips & Warnings
  • To add a password to an account, repeat Step 1through Step 4, but click "Create password" in Step 5. Enter your new password and hint.
  • You must be logged in as an administrator to perform these actions. Do not attempt to remove or add passwords on computers you don't own without permission of the owner.
