Body jewelry is always an attractive accoutrement for any style of clothing. Body jewelry has been worn by native peoples for thousands of years for religious purposes as well as for attracting the opposite sex. Beauty has always been a part of every civilization and you will find body piercings very much a part of almost any tradition. In modern times, belly button rings have become exceedingly popular, worn mostly by women as a beauty mark to become more attractive to men.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find a reputable jeweler who will help you design your own belly button ring. You can probably find any piercing shop to help as well. Alternative piercing companies will likely have a much wider variety of shapes and gemstones.

  2. Step 2

Choose a bar or ring. With either type of design, you want there to be sufficient enough metal in the piece without making it seem too bulky. Whichever you choose will depend upon your personal style and flair. You can choose bars and rings with various places to put gemstones. Some crazier designs can be in the shape of a flower, gold or silver.

  3. Step 3

Choose the gemstone type. Many gemstone types include genuine Amethyst, Blue Topaz, Garnet, Citrine, Peridot, White Cubic Zirconia, Cubic Zirconia and Yellow Cubic Zirconia. The color and type of gemstone depends on your personal style and what your favorite color might be. You should choose something personal like your birthstone or your favorite color.

  4. Step 4

Have the piece made. After talking to the jewelry shop---and if you are confident in the design---then give the go-ahead to get the piece completed. This might cost you a little extra to have a specialized piece done, but the money is well spent. After receiving the piece, make sure it fits the expectations that were agreed upon.

  5. Step 5

Get pierced. Now is the time to insert the jewelry. If you have never been pierced before, make sure to find a reputable piercing company, jewelry store or beauty shop that will place your new belly button ring in for you. You should be sure that you feel comfortable in the shop.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not pierce your belly button before you reach the age of 18 because a vital gland grows near the surface of your belly that, if pierced, will cause severe bleeding. Make sure your body has completed its growth process before you get a belly button ring.
