Internet Explorer 7 is a Microsoft Windows web browser that was released in 2006 to Windows XP Service Pack 2 users. Internet Explorer provides the ability to browse and navigate the Internet with ease and features toolbars and shortcuts with which Microsoft users are comfortable. If Internet Explorer is not working correctly, it may be something as simple as a damaged file or missing data. Troubleshooting the problem will help determine and resolve the issue.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open a new Internet Explorer window and go to the "Tools" menu. Select "Internet Options." The Internet Options dialog box will open.

  2. Step 2

Click the "Advanced" tab. In the "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" section, click the "Reset" button. If you have other windows open you will be prompted to close them, and must do so for the reset to be successful.

  3. Step 3

Click the "Reset" button when the dialog box asks if you are sure you want to reset Internet Explorer's settings.

  4. Step 4

Open Internet Explorer without add-ons. A damaged add-on may cause problems in Internet Explorer. Right click the Internet Explorer icon and select "Start Without Add-ons."

  5. Step 5

Turn on add-ons only as needed if starting without add-ons solves the issue. Select "Manage Add-ons" in the "Tools" menu to disable or enable add-ons.

Tips & Warnings
  • Upgrading to Internet Explorer 8 may also solve problems. Visit the IE website to download an update.
