Many of us think of a facial as a lavish pampering experience to make skin silky smooth and touchable. Considering the moisturizing aspect as well as the fact that the facial ingredients are applied and sit on your face for a while, many people don't think of a facial as a good treatment for acne. However, with the right ingredients, a facial can be a very effective treatment for acne. It will assist in clearing up existing blemishes and preventing new breakouts.
Treating acne with a facial can be just as lavish and pampering as a regular facial, but will address and treat the skin problems that you suffer from without creating irritation, redness or more breakouts.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Natural fruit scrub
  • Honey
  • Milk
  • Banana
  • Towel
  • Washcloth
  • Large bowl
  1. Step 1

Mix a natural fruit scrub such as St. Ives Apricot scrub with 2 tbsp. of honey,1 mashed banana, 2 tsp. of whole milk and 1 tbsp. of ground oatmeal. The all-natural scrub is formulated for facial application so it should not cause any irritation. Honey absorbs impurities and moisturizes. Banana and milk are moisturizing products, and oatmeal absorbs oil while lending soothing properties to your facial.

  2. Step 2

Steam your face using a towel to make a hood and placing your face above a steaming bowl of water. This will open your pores and allow the facial to penetrate deeply to work well.

  3. Step 3

Apply the facial mixture in a massaging motion to your entire face, avoiding the eyelids and lips. Make sure that the mixture is applied rather thickly because a thin layer can dry and harden on your face. You want it to remain creamy and pliable.

  4. Step 4

Allow the facial mixture to sit on your face for 30 to 45 minutes. Then massage thoroughly, enabling the scrubbing parts to get deep and lift away the loose dirt and oils that were in your pores.

  5. Step 5

Wipe off facial and rinse your face with warm water followed by a cold water splash to close your pores and tighten the appearance of your skin.

  6. Step 6

Apply a light natural moisturizer that won't clog pores, and which may also have soothing qualities for irritation and redness. Aveeno makes several formulations of all-natural oatmeal lotions, as does Burt's Bees. These can be found in most pharmacies and are priced very reasonably (see Resources below).

Tips & Warnings
  • Being an all-natural facial, you can use this method as often as you would like. It is advised that besides your regular cleansing and treatment plan for acne, that you include a facial such as this one at least once a week.
  • Avoid store-bought facial products that contain alcohol and other harsh products, as these can irritate the skin when left on for a long period of time. Items such as Clean and Clear or Clearasil are not recommended for a facial, but can be incorporated into your daily face care regimen.
