How to Play the Bass on Guitar Hero 3
Although the name of the game is "Guitar Hero," if you are more inclined towards playing the bass guitar rather than lead, Guitar Hero 3 has a special mode for you: the bass mode. This mode allows you to play the bassline instead of the melody of any song from the Guitar Hero 3 catalog. Although the core gameplay elements are the same, playing songs on using bass mode is a great way to experience the game and play a different part in your favorite songs.

Plug in two guitar peripherals and start up the game. The game should recognize that there are two guitars plugged in, but only a single player will be able to navigate the control screens.

Select "two player co-op" from the menu. A new screen will pop up and you can choose to be either the guitar or the bass. Note: both parts are necessary for a successful bass/guitar co-op.

Play in practice mode. If you want to play the bass by yourself, go to practice mode, and then select "bass" from the mode select screen. You can practice any song from the game here, although you cannot use the "star power" functionality.

Tips & Warnings
You cannot just play as the Bass guitar in the regular career mode. However, this functionality is enabled in the sequel to Guitar Hero 3, Guitar Hero World Tour.
