It does not matter if you are completely careful and treat your video games disc perfectly, discs are very likely to eventually become scratched. Normal game play within your video game system can scratch your disc, through no fault of your own. Getting your video games resurfaced or buying cleaning equipment can be quite costly. Learn to remove scratches from discs yourself with these easy steps.
Things You'll Need
- Sealable plastic container
Locate the scratched video game disc that you want to fix and identify where the scratches are on the disc by tilting it back and fourth underneath a light.
Rub toothpaste all over the back of the disc making sure to coat it evenly. Toothpaste with a baking soda ingredient will work the best. However, it is not something you need to spend the extra money on to obtain.
Place the toothpaste coasted disc inside a sealable airtight container for about ten minutes.
Wipe off the toothpaste under running water. Remove the toothpaste by wiping the disc outward away from the center.
Look at the disc again underneath a light to see that the scratches have been removed. Make sure the disc is completely dry and reinsert it in your game system to see that it worked.
Tips & Warnings
- This process will work for DVDs, CDs, or Computer Discs as well.
- You may have to repeat the process a couple of times for deeper scratches, so do not get discouraged if the disc does not play after the first try. Repeat the steps until the scratches are filled and the disc works properly.
