Purchase a My Little Pony cake pan. You can find a My Little Pony cake pan at many craft store\s, baking supply stores or online at the webstore Cake-N-Kitchens (see Resources). There are many variations of My Little Pony cake pans, including standing and sitting versions. If the My Little Pony cake is not a surprise, let you child chose the cake pan that she likes the best.

Wash the My Little Pony cake pan and dry it thoroughly. Collect the ingredients of your cake, including the mixing bowl, cake mix, oil, eggs and water. Preheat your oven according to the directions on the box of cake mix. Pour all of your ingredients into your bowl per the instructions on the cake mix box and mix thoroughly, using a hand mixer. Lightly spray your My Little Pony cake an with cooking spray. You can find cooking spray specifically for baking at any grocery store. Pour your cake mix into the My Little Pony cake pan.

Bake the cake according to the baking time on the cake mix box and when the cake is done, insert a toothpick into the center of the cake and it should come out dry. Let the My Little Pony cake cool completely on a cooling rack before frosting it. Once the cake is cooled, hold the base of a rectangular cake holder against the cake and quickly flip the cake so that the cake will slip out of the pan. Gently tap the pan to help the cake exit the pan.

  4. Step 4
    Colored frosting

Frost the My Little Pony cake on your rectangular cake holder according to your daughter's favorite My Little Pony character. Set the actual My Little Pony toy or picture next to you while you frost the cake to make sure that you are using the right colors. If your pony uses a color of frosting that you cannot find at the store, simply buy white frosting and use a few drops of food coloring to create the color of frosting you require.

  5. Step 5

Using a frosting knife, smooth out the body color to cover the entire body of the My Little Pony. Use decorative icing to fill in the accent colors, such as the eyes, hair and special symbol that each My Little Pony has on its body. When the cake is finished, place the candles on the cake for the birthday party.
