Lavender is a relaxing, aromatic flower that can be found in concentrated essential oil form. Lavender can calm restless or anxious children, and can be used on pillows to help children sleep at night. One creative use for lavender is to create lavender sachet wands that your children can play with. If you have a restless little princess, fairy or knight at home, consider making one of these lavender sachet wands.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Per wand:
  • 1/4 inch wooden dowel, 12 inches long
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil
  • Hot glue
  • Hot glue gun
  • Wool batting
  • Ribbon, sequins, lace, or glitter
  • Needle and thread
  • Cotton cloth, 6 inches by 3 inches
  1. Step 1

Fold the cloth in half so that the short ends touch. Line up the corners so that the edges meet all along the sides. Using a needle and thread, sew along the edge using small stitches, leaving about one inch unsewn. Tie off your thread and turn the form inside out.

  2. Step 2

Stuff the form with wool batting until it is as full as you like. Drop five drops of essential oil onto the wool batting. Insert the wooden dowel into the one-inch hole. Using a hot glue gun, apply a thin glob of hot glue around the dowel, and press the cloth against it, sealing any openings.

  3. Step 3

Apply decorations such as ribbons, sequins, glitter or lace. You can glue them to the wand by applying a dollop of hot glue to the area that you are decorating, and pressing the decoration to the area until the hot glue cools. If you have a little boy, decorate the wand with bold kingly or knightly colors. You can use gold trimmings to accent the boy's wand. Once you are finished decorating the wand, it will be ready to play with.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep hot glue and glue guns away from children. Be careful not to touch the hot glue once it is melted, it can burn you. Unplug the hot glue gun once you are finished.
