How to Install a Sound Card With a CD-ROM
Adding a sound card to your computer is a simple yet essential process. Installing your sound card with a CD ensures that you get the drivers intended for your card installed, as opposed to allowing your computer to search your computer or online for generic drivers. Shut down your computer, and then disconnect all cables connected to the computer. Sit the computer on a stable work surface, such as a desk or a table, and give yourself plenty of room to work. Discharge static from your clothing to avoid shocking any components you may come in contact with.

Remove the supporting screws located at the back of the computer. Removing screws from the right back side of the case should be enough to allow you to remove a side panel and access the motherboard. Slide the side panel off. Lay the case on its side with the open area facing up.

Insert your sound card into one of the free expansion bays on the motherboard. The bays should be positioned along the bottom right side of your motherboard. Secure the sound card in the expansion bay with a screw. Replace the side panel and screws.

Replace the side panel of your case and replace the screws.

Turn on your computer. When the operating system boots, your computer should automatically recognize the new sound card. An installation wizard will appear; exit out of it.

Insert your installation CD. Wait for the CD to auto-run and the CD-based installation menu to appear.

Locate the "Drivers" tab in the installation wizard, and click on it. Follow the prompts to install the drivers for your sound card. Your computer will restart to implement the upgrades.
