How to Make a No-Sew Baby Sling

For the first couple months of a baby's life they will most likely want to be held a majority of the day, which can make it hard to get anything done that requires more than one hand. Wearing the newborn in a baby sling while you get things done around the house is a great solution to this problem because it makes them feel like they are back in the womb. Baby slings can be quite expensive in the stores, even if you manage to find one on sale, they can still be pricey. The good news is you can make your own baby sling without even having to break out a sewing machine.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut your jersey knit fabric length-wise so that you know have a piece of fabric that is 5 yards long and about 25-30 inches wide, depending on your preference. Wider is better for younger babies who need more back support.

    • 2

Drape about a 18 inches of one end of the sling over one shoulder and then wrap the remainder down across the back so that you can pull it to the front at the opposite hip.

    • 3

Tie the two ends together so that the sling hangs at a comfortable height, remembering that the baby's weight will cause it to hang lower that it is now.

    • 4

Double knot the tie and then sit down before placing the baby in the sling.

    • 5

Place baby in the sling, while supporting the head and neck, with the head facing up toward your shoulder and feet down toward your hip.
