What's a princess without a glittery wand to give her a touch of magic? A princess costume is a popular choice when it comes to Halloween or dress up, but with all of the accessories, it can be an expensive option. The dress alone can be pricey, so it's a good idea to be frugal with the accessories. A princess wand doesn't have to be an expensive purchase. In fact, it can be made with basic crafting supplies and in the comfort of your own home.
Snap or cut a wooden dowel to approximately 12 inches in length. Cover the dowel's entire surface in white glue.
2
Wrap a piece of thin cloth ribbon around the dowel until the dowel is completely covered and no wood is visible. Brightly colored ribbon works best for wands and using different color ribbons is attractive. Allow the glue to dry completely.
3
Cut a star, heart or any other shape you like, out of a piece of Styrofoam with a utility knife. The Styrofoam should be approximately 1-inch thick.
4
Pour glitter onto a paper plate and cover the entire piece of Styrofoam with white glue. Dip or roll the Styrofoam into the glitter until the entire surface is covered. Allow the glue to dry.
5
Puncture the bottom of the glittered Styrofoam shape with the wrapped wooden dowel. Sink the dowel into the Styrofoam as deep as you need to secure the two pieces together.
6
Knot brightly colored ribbon to the top of the dowel directly below the sparkly Styrofoam shape. Do not tie the ribbon to the dowel in a bow, just knot it once or twice so that each end is the same length. Tie as many ribbons to the dowel as you like. This will create a fringed look.
7
Add any other decorations you wish to the wand, and your little princess will be ready to rule.
Tips & Warnings
Hot glue can be used to secure the dowel to the Styrofoam if the two pieces are loose.
Children can help make their own wand, but adult supervision is suggested.
