If you are concerned about wasting energy while using your dryer, consider recycling the heat that is created by the dryer to help heat your home. A device called the Heat Keeper is available for this purpose, but you can also achieve similar results for free with just a pair of pantyhose. You can easily use this method during the winter and then return the system to normal to let the heat out in the summer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Heat keeper
  • OR
  • Pantyhose
  1. Step 1

Disconnect the dryer exhaust hose from the outlet that sends the air outside.

  2. Step 2

Connect the Heat Keeper to the exhaust hose according to the directions in the package. A Heat Keeper has a safety valve to prevent pressure buildup. It has a lever you can flip to alternate between directing the air inside and outside.

  3. Step 3

Alternatively, cover the end of the exhaust hose with a section of pantyhose, which traps the lint and keeps it from flying out into your house. Then simply let the warm air blow out into the laundry room.
