The Nero 7 software program allows you to burn DVDs and CDs, and also offers a means to print labels for the discs once they have been burned. Unfortunately, the program does not install properly in the Windows Vista operating system. You can get around the problem by downloading a software update available from Nero if you have Nero 7 already installed and you then upgraded your operating system to Vista. If you don't already have Nero 7 installed and have Vista, you can instead use a "Lite" edition of the program that does not have any installation issues.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

    Previous Install

  1. Step 1

Navigate to the official Nero website (see Resources). Click on the "Support" tab and then click on the "Downloads" link from the drop-down menu that will appear. Click on the button on the right side of the screen that reads "Nero Older Products."

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Update" button inside the box labeled "Nero 7 Downloads." Click on the gray square box with the arrow that reads "Download." Click on "Save File" when a window pops up asking you what action you want to take.

  3. Step 3

Find the folder where you saved the file and double-click on it to start the upgrade process. Click on "Next," then type in your registration key and click on "Next" again.

  4. Step 4

Wait for the upgrade to finish installing, then restart your computer and run the Nero 7 software.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Nero 7 program must not be open when you run the update program, or it will not install correctly. You can find your registration key either by looking in the manual that came with the Nero software, or by running the software and then clicking on "Help" and "About Nero 7."
  • You have to run the Nero software as an administrator for it to run properly in Vista. To do this, simply click on the Nero 7 desktop icon or "Programs" listing, then choose the option that reads "Run as Administrator."
