Instructions

    • 1

Open a fresh 2-liter bottle of soda. Diet soda is less sticky than regular and tends to work better. Tonic water can also be used. The carbonation is really all that is important.

    • 2

Open the roll of Mentos and remove them all from the package.

    • 3

Roll a piece of paper into a cone shape to use as a funnel. The Mentos all need to hit the soda at the same time.

    • 4

Put the small end of your paper funnel into the top of the soda bottle and drop the Mentos into the funnel all at once.

    • 5

Step back as fast as you can. The reaction will be immediate. In all likelihood, you will get wet so you may want to wear a poncho.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do this experiment at night with tonic water and shine a black light on it for a glowing fountain.
