Installing PC Tools Firewall Plus for Windows Vista

Open your web browser and navigate to the PC Tools Firewall Plus download page (the link is available in "Additional Resources," below).

Click on the green box that says "Start FREE Download Now!"

When the download box appears, click on "Save" and save it to the system folder of your choice. The best destination folder would be the "Programs" folder.

Before you install PC Tools Firewall Plus, close all open windows and disable your existing firewall by clicking on "Start" and then choosing "Control Panel."

Click on "Security."

Click on "Turn Windows Firewall on or off."

When the "Windows Firewall Settings" screen appears, click on "Off (not recommended)," select "Apply," and then choose "OK." This will disable Windows Firewall and enable you to install PC Tools Firewall Plus as your default firewall software.

Close all open windows besides the PC Tools Firewall Plus Installation Wizard.

Follow the instructions in the Installation Wizard. Read and accept the user license agreement (the installation will be denied if you decline the agreement). When the Installation Wizard is finished, you should restart your computer whether you are prompted to or not. This will allow the changes to take effect. When the computer is restarted, PC Tools Firewall Plus will be installed as your default firewall software.

As of my knowledge, in vista, windows apps which need full access are ... 1) Consent UI for administrative applications 2) Host Process for Windows Services 3) Internet Explorer 4) Local Security Authority Process 5) Microsoft Windows Search Filter Host 6) Microsoft Windows Search Indexer 7) Microsoft Windows Search Protocol Host 8) Services and Controller app 9) Spooler SubSystem App 10) Userinit Logon Application 11) WMI Provider Host 12) WMI Reverse Performance Adapter Maintenance Utility 13) Windows Explorer 14) Windows Logon Application 15) Windows Session Manager 16) Windows Start-Up Application .... After this you can grant access to your own specific applications like ymessenger and etc to full access and cut off all other applications. Please correct me if I'm wrong .... Thanks -

What you had given here is fine but I think the question was "How to Install PC Tools Firewall Plus for Vista", You have mentioned only the installation procedure ... On installation PCTOOLS firewall just acts as ordinary open gateway!!! It does not block any outgoing or incoming traffic!!! It would have been better if you had given a list of windows process to block, or to allow net access!!!
