How to Make White Chocolate Shavings

If you want to make an eye-catching garnish for a dessert, consider white chocolate shavings. The white perfectly offsets the dark brown of a cocoa cake. You can also use them to garnish fruit desserts with white chocolate in them, such as a white chocolate strawberry mousse, or a raspberry white chocolate cheesecake. These do not store well, so only make as much as you need. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place a vegetable peeler in the bowl of warm water for two to five minutes. This will warm the peeler slightly to ease the making of the shavings.

    • 2

Leave the white chocolate on the counter while the peeler is in the water. This will soften the white chocolate enough to curl when you make the shavings.

    • 3

Hold the white chocolate bar over the dessert you will garnish.

    • 4

Peel the end of the white chocolate bar the same way that you would peel a vegetable. The shavings will fall on top of the dessert. Move the block of white chocolate to cover different areas of the dessert plate.

    • 5

Move any wayward white chocolate shavings by using a toothpick to shift them into place around the dessert. This is an optional step and should only be taken if needed.
