How to Hit a Golf Ball Flush
Hitting the ball flush is one of the most important elements to the game of golf. Making impact on the sweet spot of your woods, irons or hybrids will help you hit the golf ball straighter and farther. Learning how to hit a golf ball flush takes practice, however. Even PGA Tour players need repetition to avoid hitting slices or hooks.

1
Take a few practice swings with a light grip. Gripping the club too tightly exerts tension into your wrists and forearms.
-
2
Press down on your left thumb with the base of your right thumb. This prevents your hands from coming loose during the swing and will help keep the club face square with the golf ball upon impact.
-
-
3
Keep your right elbow pointing down at the top of your back swing. This keeps the club pointing parallel to your target and will help you hit the ball straight.
-
4
Bend at the knees slightly so you can shift your weight during your downswing.
-
5
Keep your shoulders square, and shift your body weight slightly toward your target on your downswing.
-
6
Swing straight through the ball. Make sure your arms are extended toward your target after impact. Think of shaking hands with the target with your right hand as you rotate your body.

Tips & Warnings
Avoid paying too much attention to each little movement during your swing. You will need to practice these individually for a more natural swing. Focus on simply launching the ball toward the target with the club head. This mindset lets the other parts of your body respond naturally.
