How to Change a Fuel Pump on a Nissan Titan

Nissan Titans are usually very tough and reliable trucks. However, their fuel pumps have a tendency of going bad and becoming plugged with residue and other debris. But rather than pay for labor charges at an auto shop, you can easily replace the fuel pump yourself by following these step-by-step instructions.

Things You'll Need

  • Standard end-wrench set
  • Pull the truck up on blocks and activate the parking brake.

  • Slide under the truck and locate the fuel pump. This is located under the driver's side on Titans.

  • Unplug the usage cord from the side of the fuel pump. You may have to lift the front clip on the plug, as it is what keeps the plug secured.

  • Loosen both sides of the fuel pump with an end wrench and remove the pump. Cover the input valve side with your finger to prevent too much fuel from leaking out.

  • Wipe both the input and output valve with a clean rag to remove any sludge and debris.

  • Slide the new fuel pump onto into its slot, and tighten both sides. Make sure not to get either of the valves cross-threaded.

  • Replace the usage cord plug. Make sure that the latch is completely secured.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the input and output valves are very sludgy, use cotton swabs to wipe them clean.
  • Be aware of pinch points when working underneath any kind of vehicle.
