However, the cake, if purchased from a bakery can be expensive, and the bigger the cake, the higher the price. You can save money by making a Tinkerbell cake at home. It's quick, easy, and simple. Things You'll Need

  • Shortening
  • Tinkerbell cake pan
  • Flour
  • Box cake mix
  • Rubber spatula
  • Cake board
  • 5 cups of decorator's icing
  • Icing bags
  • Couplers
  • Decorator tips 3. 16, 31
  • Black food coloring
  • Royal-blue food coloring
  • Lemon-yellow food coloring
  • Red food coloring
  • Copper food coloring

Instructions

  1. Baking

      Preheat the oven to the temperature designated on the cake mix. Lightly grease the cake pan with shortening. Dust the pan with flour, making sure to cover every crevice.

      Mix the cake batter according to package instructions. Pour the batter into the greased cake pan. Lightly shake the pan from side to side to remove any air bubbles.

      Place the cake in the preheated oven. Bake according to the time on the package, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool. Run a rubber spatula around the perimeter of the cake to loosen it, and turn upside down onto the cake board. Gently shake the pan as you lift it up to remove the cake.

    Decorating

      Mix the icing in separate bowls as follows, 1/4 cup of icing with black coloring, 1/4 cup with royal blue, 1 cup with yellow, 1/4 cup with red, and 1/2 cup with copper. Add a few drops at a time, mix, and continue to add more food coloring until the icing is the desired color.

      Mix 1/4 cup of white icing with 1/4 teaspoon of light corn syrup. This will think??? the icing so that it goes on smoothly. Ice the side and the eyes of the cake with the white icing.

      Follow the instructions on the icing bag for putting on the decorating tips. Place the black icing in a bag with decorator tip 3. Use the black icing to outline all the facial features. This includes the eyes, hair, nose, and eyebrows.

      Place white icing in a bag, and use tip 3 to pipe white icing over the teeth, and to fill in the eyes. You will need this later to place a dot on the eyes as well.

      Place the red icing in a bag. Use tip 3 to fill in the lips. Place the blue icing in a bag, and using tip 3 pipe in blue to make the colored iris of the eye. Fill in the pupil with black. Add a white dot as a highlight in the eyes.

      Use tip 16, and fill a bag with copper icing. Make stars using tip 16 to cover the face. Repeat with yellow icing and tip 16 to make the hair.

      Use the blue icing and tip 3 to create a ribbon around the bun. Make the ribbon by creating strings with the tip. Use white icing, and tip 21 to create a shell boarder around the bottom of the cake.

Tips & Warnings

  • Purchase extra bags in case one rips. Buy tips that work on the outside of the bag to switch easily.

  • Buy extra icing to avoid running out.
