How to Repair Windows XP Remotely

- Permission to access remote computer
- Computer name or IP address of remote computer

Log on to your system with administrative rights. This can be the user Administrator or another log on with the same rights.

Enable remote desktop on the remote computer.
Go to "Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall."
Go to "Exceptions." Check the boxes "Remote Assistance" and "Remote Desktop." Click "OK" when finished. -

Go to "Start > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection."

Type in the computer name or IP address in the Computer Name drop down box. Press "Connect." Enter your user name and password and press "OK."

Wait for the remote computer's desktop to load in a new window. This gives you full access to the remote computer's desktop. Access files and folders and run programs as if it were your own desktop.
Click the "X" in the top right corner to disconnect the session.

Tips & Warnings
Change your Remote Desktop settings by going to "Options" in the Remote Desktop connection window. You can change the display options, which programs automatically run and which hardware devices are accessible.
Only use Remote Desktop if the remote user has consented.
