1
Lay the tarps on the floor. Remove all the hardware, including the handles and hinges, from your cabinets using a screwdriver. Place all the hardware and screws in a safe place so they won't get lost if you plan to reuse them. Lay the doors that are now removed on the tarps.

2
Put on the rubber gloves and the mask, and make sure the room is well ventilated. To apply the paint or stripper, follow the directions of the manufacturer carefully. Apply with a rag, removing all the old finish from each piece before moving on to the next door or cabinet.

Sand the doors and cabinets to remove any residue or to smooth down any rough edges. Wipe off any sandpaper dust with the soft cloths so the doors and cabinets are dust free.

Apply the new finish or paint, following the manufacturer's directions precisely. Again, make sure you are wearing the mask and the room is well ventilated.
