1
Stay away from stimulants such as caffeine and nicotine before bedtime. Drinking tea, soft drinks and smoking cigarettes before you head off to bed can make you antsy and unable to fall asleep.
-
2
Keep your bedroom optimized for sleep. Keep the lights dim, avoid excess noise and don't watch television in bed. You should also avoid doing work related activities in your bedroom.

3
Find ways to unwind before bedtime. Soak in a hot bubble bath, indulge in a good book, or listen to some soothing music to overcome your sleeplessness.
-
4
Establish a solid bedtime routine. Go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning.
-
5
Limit naps during the day. If you struggle with sleeplessness, limit daytime naps to 15 minutes or eliminate them altogether.
-
6
Don't engage in high energy exercises before bedtime. Instead of a pre-bedtime workout, get your exercise in during the morning or afternoon hours.
-
7
Use sleep aids as a last resort. To keep your body from becoming dependent on sleep medications, they should only be used as a short-term solution to overcome sleeplessness. Before taking sleeping pills, talk to your doctor to see if they're appropriate for you.
