Make a Mini Origami Storage Box

Origami is the ancient art of folding paper into unique and beautiful patterns. While many origami projects are merely decorative, some can be useful as well! This origami box is a fun craft project that can then be used to hold small items. Store paper clips, rubber bands or small pieces of candy in this small box and store it on your desk at work or home.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 piece of origami paper--6 inches square

    Folding an Origami Box

  1. Step 1

With the inner color of your box facing upward, fold the piece of paper in half once width-wise and once lengthwise.

  2. Step 2

Turn the paper so that the colored side is facing out, and make two diagonal folds--one in each direction.

  3. Step 3

Press the paper toward the center to create a star shape, then press it flat into a triangle.

  4. Step 4

Place a finger under the center of the paper and gently pop it outward so that the inside color for the box is now on the interior of the shape. Carefully pinch the creases on either side of the shape.

  5. Step 5

Press the folds together until you have a flattened dart shape.

  6. Step 6

With the open end of the shape facing you, fold the right corner across to the center crease and press down lightly.

  7. Step 7

Gently open the fold and crease. Repeat this step with all four corners.

  8. Step 8

Fold the outer half of each triangle inward so that it meets with the center of the shape.

  9. Step 9

Fold the bottom of the shape upward to create a small triangle at the bottom.

  10. Step 10

Fold the bottom triangle back down. Then pull down the top triangle as far as it will go without tearing and crease. Repeat this step on the three remaining points until they have all been folded down.

  11. Step 11

Hold the paper by the creases, in a star shape.

  12. Step 12

Gently turn the shape over and press open the center. Press along the outer creases to form the box shape.

  13. Step 13

Turn your project over to enjoy the finished origami box!
