How to Become an Insurance Adjuster Online
In order to become an insurance adjuster, you have to obtain your state license. More and more incoming insurance adjusters receive their pre-licensure training from online courses. These courses will teach you property and casualty insurance, financial assessment of damaged property, state laws and regulations concerning insurance, and worker's compensation insurance. The highlight of an online program is that it can last as little as three or four days.

Find an accredited claims adjuster online training program in your state. These courses are usually called pre-licensing courses, because they give you the training you need for your final licensure exam. Check if your local community college offers an online program, or see Resources for a link to a directory of online adjuster programs.

2
Know that the average insurance-adjuster course entails 30 to 40 hours, along with an online final examination that gives you state licensure. Many online programs can last as little as three days, though they are often all-day sessions.

Tips & Warnings
During your training, apprentice yourself to a claims adjuster who works as an independent contractor. This person can directly teach you how to do assessments on damaged property and how to process claims. Learn Xactimate 25 software, also called Sketch. Xactimate 25 is the industry-standard software for insurance adjustments. Many online programs do not include training in this software, so make sure you learn it from a licensed claims adjuster.
Make sure you enter an online program that meets your state's requirements for licensed insurance adjusters. Remember, you don't have to take your state licensure exam for adjusters because your school's final exam is designed to meet state requirements.
