The tote is usually square or rectangular in shape; however, you can select the shape of your own choice. Keep in mind the specific use for it when you select your shape. Measure out 2 inches extra for seam allowance on sides, and 4 inches on the top, from the desired size. Cut out two equal pieces of fabric for the front and back.
-
2
Stitch around three sides, forming a U shape as you sew the two pieces together, leaving 4 inches from the top. Make sure you do double stitching to make the bag more sturdy.
-
-
3
Fold 2 1/2 inches downward from top and sew on the bottom fold to create an opening for the straps.
-
4
Insert the strings separately in each side's opening, tie firmly then slide the knot in the fold.
-
5
Turn the bag right side out. You can further embellish the tote by sewing an oversize bow on one side or outlining the print with silver or gold glitter.

Use a good-quality thread to avoid weak stitching. Wash and iron the fabric before cutting to avoid a misshapen tote bag.
