Instructions

    • 1

Cover the baking sheet with foil and coat with nonstick cooking spray.

    • 2

Cut the stems off the apples and replace them with a skewer.

    • 3

Unwrap the caramels and put them in the bowl. Add the water and microwave for two minutes. Stir the mixture every 30 seconds. After this step, the caramel should stir very smoothly.

    • 4

Hold an apple by its skewer and dip it into the caramel. Try to cover it completely.

    • 5

Remove the apple from the bowl and twirl it to remove the excess caramel. Place the finished apple on the baking sheet. Repeat with remaining apples.

    • 6

Put the baking sheet in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

    • 7

Put the chocolate and the shortening in the bowl and microwave for two to three minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until the chocolate is melted.

    • 8

Holding an apple by its skewer, dip it in the chocolate. Try to cover the apple completely.

    • 9

While the chocolate is still soft, dip the apple in the chopped nuts. Place the apple back on the baking sheet. Repeat with remaining apples.

    • 10

Return the baking sheet to refrigerator for an hour.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of nuts, you can dip the apples into crushed candy pieces for a different flavor. You can swirl dark and white chocolate together for a more professional look.

  • Always store chocolate candy apples in the refrigerator. They will keep for about two weeks.
