Step 1
Arrive your first day of the weekend in Grand Rapids, and take in the salmon jumping experience (best enjoyed in the fall and spring months). Joseph Kinnebrew's Grand River Sculpture and Fish Ladder is the main location where viewing platforms are located so people can watch salmon jump graduated steps up and over Grand Rapid's Sixth Street dam.

Step 2
For a bit of history while in Grand Rapids, check out the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. The Ford Museum opened to the public in September 1981, and allows visitors to take in highlights of the lives of both President and Mrs. Ford. The Gerald R. Ford Library is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, should you wish to continue your historical journey through archived materials on political affairs, U.S. domestic issues and foreign relations during the Cold War era. See the link to the website below for further visiting information.

Step 3
Head your next day to Traverse City, and take in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Here you can enjoy over 30 miles of Lake Michigan's eastern coastline, with the opportunity to explore the North and South Manitou Islands, and even climb the dunes themselves. Huge dunes of pure, wind-blown sand provide beautiful views of Glen Lake, and offer a variety of amazing and scenic photo opportunities.

Step 4
Take the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, a 7.4-mile self-guided tour. Visitors can gain insight to the history of the surrounding area among spectacular overlooks of the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Lake Michigan. For further information on what this drive has to offer, visit the link below.
