How to Make a Teddy Bear Out of Diapers

A teddy bear made out of diapers is a very thoughtful baby shower gift. Not only does it make a cute conversation piece both during the party and before the baby is born, it also becomes useful once that little bundle of joy arrives. It's best to make the bear with the newborn size of diapers, since the new mom will probably want to use them as soon as possible.

Pull a diaper out of the bag or box and open it up all the way while leaving the tape to close the sides of the diaper folded down. Hold the diaper so the front is facing you and roll it up like you would a sleeping bag. Once you're finished, take a second diaper and place it on the outside of the first, rolling it up over top of it. Add seven more diapers in the same manner until you end up with a pretty large, flat circle. This will be the bear's body. Tie a ribbon around the circumference to keep the circle from unraveling.

Repeat step one using only five diapers to form the bear's head. Then make the legs with two diapers each. Make four circles with only one diaper to form the bear's arms and ears. Tightly secure all of these new circles with ribbons

Connect the circles together with your double-sided tape to form the shape of the bear. Only connect ribbon to ribbon; you do not want to get tape on the diapers. Once you have your diapers looking bear-like, add a baby hat, sunglasses, pacifier, bib and booties to the bear's head and body. (Wedge the pacifier's mouthpiece between a seam in the diapers.) Not only will decoration make your bear look cuter, it also adds some extra baby gifts.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your bear will be able to stand up as long as its legs are evenly spaced. It's not made to withstand a lot of jostling though, so try not to move it more than necessary. Keep the bag the diapers came in in case the mother needs to know the size, materials and manufacturer.

  • Keep the tape off of the diapers. If it gets stuck to them it will not come off without tearing the paper or plastic. This could make the diapers unusable.
