The Essentials
-
1
Gather your items together. The absolute essentials are paper, glue and scissors, but you are certainly welcome to add other fun embellishments--this is your project, after all!
I have purchased clear checkbook covers online, but I often find it is easier (and cheaper) to buy a pocket calendar. The plastic cover is the same size as the checkbook cover and usually costs less than $1.00.

2
Remove the calendar from the plastic cover. Trace onto the back of your main paper.

3
Using the paper trimmer, cut out the traced area on your paper. Fold in half, being careful to line up the corners.

Choose the embellishments you want to add to your checkbook cover. I chose a photo of my son and trimmed it to fit into a Making Memories frame. I used chalk ink to embellish the edges of my paper, and then mounted my photo frame onto the background paper. Finally, I used alphabet stickers to add the title to my cover.

Tips & Warnings
You are only limited by your imagination! You can make the cover as fancy or as simple as you like. Remember that the items have to fit back into the plastic sleeve--you can use bulky items, but they can't overlap the edges. If you are using photos, use acid-free products. You can also do this with other small plastic sleeves--look in the office section of your local mega-mart. You may be surprised at all your different options!
