Hooking up a scanner to a computer generally involves the same process for most brands. Scanners come with an installation disc that must be installed on the computer before using the new hardware. Installation may vary between brands. Always read the installation instructions that come with your scanner.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Plug the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cord from the scanner into a USB port on the computer.

  2. Step 2

Plug the electrical cord from the scanner into an electrical outlet.

  3. Step 3

Insert the CD or DVD that comes with the scanner into the computer's disc reader.

  4. Step 4

Follow the instructions given by the installation program to download the scanner software onto the computer. If the software does not immediately start, click the icon on your computer that operates the drive where you inserted the disc. This should start the download process. When the installation process is finished, your scanner should be ready to scan.
