How to Make a Tulle Mini Skirt
Creating your own skirt can be challenging. A tulle mini skirt, however, is only moderately challenging because tulle really takes on its own shape. In addition, by making the waist band out of elastic, you don't have to worry about having it exactly right. You can make your tulle mini skirt in any color.
Things You'll Need
- Tulle Satin Elastic Sewing machine or needle and thread Ruler Scissors Pins

1
Determine the length of the skirt by measuring from your waist down to where you want the hem of the skirt to be. Add one inch so you have plenty of material to create an elastic waist. Measure your waist and than add one inch to determine the amount of material you'll need to make the slip portion of the skirt.

Cut the satin using the measurements you got in Step 1. Fold the satin so that the side of the material which will face out is folded in. Sew the material along the seam to create what will look like a tube. Hem the bottom of the material, which will eventually be part of the bottom of your skirt.

Do not cut the tulle yet. Lay the tulle on top of the satin so that the top edges of the fabrics meet. Start at the seam in the satin and pin the corner of the tulle to the satin. Then go about an inch away and fold approximately one half inch of tulle under itself and pin it to the satin. Go one more inch and fold under one half inch of tulle and pin it. Keep doing this until you've made it completely around the skirt. Cut off any extra tulle. Then sew the tulle in place and remove the pins. Attaching the tulle this way will make it puff out at the bottom instead of lying flat against your legs like a pencil skirt.

4
Hand sew the two ends of the tulle together to create the seam in the back of your skirt.
-
5
Turn the skirt inside out. Take one end of the elastic and sew it to the top of the seam in the back of the satin. Then wrap the elastic around the top of the skirt until you reached the other side of the seam. Cut the elastic and sew the other end to the other side of the seam in the satin.
-
6
Fold the top of the skirt over the elastic, approximately one inch. The satin and the tulle are sewn together at this point so they should both be folded over. Pin the fold in place.
-
7
Sew the top edge down where you have it pinned so that the elastic band is inside the fold. When you are done, turn the skirt inside right. The satin part should lay flat against your legs, while the tulle part is loose and bouncy.
-
8
Cut the tulle to the length you want it to go. Be careful to cut the tulle evenly, because you will not be hemming the tulle, so the edge you cut will be the bottom of your skirt.

Tips & Warnings
Before you cut the tulle, put the skirt on and stand in front of a mirror. Have someone mark the material for you at the length you want the tulle to be.
Do not cut the tulle until it is sewn onto the skirt. Cutting it to short will make it look more like a tutu than a mini skirt.
