How to Make Homemade Dog Food Using Chicken & Fat

Making homemade dog food is a healthy alternative to commercially prepared dog food and the best way to guarantee a safe and healthy diet for your pet. Dog food made at home from ingredients that you trust will eliminate the fear of chemical contamination and dog food recalls from commercially prepared varieties. Additionally, making homemade dog food for your dog will eliminate the daily toxification of your pet through commercially prepared dog food laden with chemicals and potentially unsavory ingredients.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 9 by 13 baking dish or pan Pam or other cooking spray 3 cups ground chicken (including fat) 2 eggs 1 1/2 cups oatmeal 1/4 cup grated zucchini 1/4 cup grated broccoli 1/4 cup grated carrots 1/4 cup grated sweet potato 1/2 cup ricotta cheese (may substitute cottage cheese) 1/4 cup ketchup

    Directions

  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray baking dish with cooking spray.

  2. Step 2

    Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl.

  3. Step 3

    Mix ingredients thoroughly. Mixing by hand works well.

  4. Step 4

    Press mixture into baking dish.

  5. Step 5

    Bake for 35 to 40 minutes.

  6. Step 6

    Remove from oven and allow to cool.

  7. Step 7

    Cut into desired servings. Dog food may be kept in the refrigerator for up to three days or frozen up to three months.

Tips & Warnings
  • When freezing dog food, cut into desired servings before freezing. Place dog food pieces on a tray and freeze for one hour before bagging and freezing for future use.
  • Pets with allergies require special consideration before being given homemade dog food.

on 9/25/2009 This is way too salty for dogs. Both cottage cheese and ricotta cheese are very salty. Leave these out.
