Purchase blond hair dye. You can find this in drug stores and other mass retailers. Look for a light blond hair color you like, and check the box to make sure that it is #3 permanent hair color.

Read the directions from the box of home hair dye. Although most procedures for dying hair are the same, each brand has differences. Read the directions ahead of time so you know what to expect.

Mix your hair color per the directions in your kit. Wear gloves that come with the kit to protect your hands from the chemicals.

Apply your blond hair dye to your hair. Start at the roots and work your way down the length of your hair. Make sure to get spots around your ears and the hairline on the back of your neck as these are often overlooked.

Wait for your hair dye to set. The length of time is different for each brand.

Wash out the hair dye until the water runs clear. If the home hair dye you purchased didn't come with conditioner, use your own and leave it on your head for five minutes before you wash it out. This will protect your hair and keep it hydrated. Now you're ready to style your new blond hair as usual.

Dyeing your hair blond at home works best for those with medium brown hair or lighter. If your hair is dark brown or black, you may need to visit a salon instead.
Don't pre-mix your hair dye. It starts losing its potency as soon as you mix it together. Leave the cap off of your hair dye bottle. Leaving it on could cause an explosion.
