Obtain your credit report, motor vehicle report and education transcripts from the proper agencies in order to have the information you will need for your application. Contact the local police agency that you would like to work for by either going online to their website or calling them directly to request an application for employment.

Complete the application for the law enforcement position you desire. In case you are filling out applications for more than one department, check each application carefully for the exact requirements of that department. Fill out the application as completely as possible and return it to the recruiting office of the proper law enforcement agency.

Prepare for a series of tests, which will include such things as a civil service examination, physical agility test, pre-employment interview, polygraph test, physical examination, psychological examination, a background check and final interview.
