How to Finish a Knitted Scarf
Novice knitters and experienced knitters alike enjoy the quick scarf project. Making a scarf is an excellent project for teaching a new knitter the basics of this skill. By the time the scarf is almost completed, the knitting stitches have been practiced enough that a novice knitter is feeling quite confident with her new skill.
Even more experienced knitters like to choose an especially attractive yarn and whip up a new scarf to add pizazz to a winter outfit. If you've almost finished a scarf and are wondering how to cast off and complete your project, the following steps may help you.
Instructions
-
-
1
Begin the casting off process when your scarf is your desired length.
-
2
Knit 2 of the stitches you have been using for the scarf onto the empty knitting needle.
-
-
3
Pull the first stitch over the second stitch and completely off the knitting needle.
-
4
Knit another stitch onto the empty knitting needle. Repeat step 3. The casting off process necessitates that you always have two stitches on the empty needle through the entire edge of the scarf.
-
5
Cut off the yarn length when one stitch remains on the knitting needle. Pull the short tail through the remaining stitch and take it off the knitting needle. Knot the tail and trim any excess yarn.
