Toast is one of the easiest things to make in the kitchen, but you will have to know how to operate a toaster first. Pop-up toasters have been around since the early 20th century and they remain popular to this day. You can use a toaster to toast a slice of bread or to heat a Pop Tart. These steps will guide you to use a toaster properly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Toaster Bread
  1. Step 1

Plug the toaster into an electrical outlet.

  2. Step 2

Set the dial on the front of the toaster to the desired level of darkness for your toast.

  3. Step 3

Insert one slice of bread into each of the slots at the top of the toaster.

  4. Step 4

Press the lever on the toaster down to lower the bread and begin the toasting cycle.

  5. Step 5

Wait for the toast to pop up when it is done. If the toast is not dark enough, repeat the steps above until bread reaches the level of toasting you desire.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not put anything on your bread before toasting. This includes icing, butter, cream cheese, honey or jam. As the toaster heats, it will melt these off the bread and they can drip into the toaster causing damage to the electrical components of the toaster. Do not insert your fingers or metal utensils in the toaster to dislodge stuck bread. Unplug the toaster and use a pair of dry chopsticks to remove the bread from the toaster if it does not pop up.
