Easter is a time for rebirth, renewal---and some really colorful hats. Some of the fanciest and funkiest Easter hats will surely be on the scene at church, on the town and at an Easter parade. You can turn an ordinary chapeau into an Easter bonnet with a little creativity and some simple supplies.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Straw hat Silk flowers Ribbon Miscellaneous accessories Glue gun
  1. Step 1

Gather your supplies. Find an inexpensive straw hat and an array of novelties you'd like to attach to that hat. Dollar stores and craft supply shops are treasure troves of such items. To stay in line with the traditional Easter hat, pick pastel silk flowers and pastel ribbon at least 2 inches thick. Add any items you can envision to this basic decoration.

  2. Step 2

Set up the hat band. Select a ribbon at least 2 inches wide to wrap around the base of the hat, right above the brim. This will reinforce the accessories you will soon attach. Use the glue gun to apply a thin layer of glue to the back of the ribbon and press it firmly into place. Allow the glue to dry.

  3. Step 3

Select your base flowers. Pick an array of flowers that will be secured to the ribbon around the base of the hat. The number you need depends on how large they are. Use at least six medium-sized flowers to get a full effect. Use the glue gun to apply a generous dollop of glue to the fattest underside of the flower and press into place on the ribbon. Repeat for all flowers until you have a rim of flowers around the hat.

  4. Step 4

Add other accessories. Glue more flowers on the rim of the brim, along with other accessories. These can include plastic eggs, plastic fruit, small bird, rabbit or chick stuffed animals, colorful dried sticks, babies breath, ornamental pins, plastic or glass baubles, pieces of broken jewelry or dangling rhinestones. Your imagination is your only limit on these accessories.

Tips & Warnings
  • Easter hats can be classy, subdued or downright ridiculous. That's what makes them fun. Go hog wild if it fits your personality.
