Take your chihuahua to the veterinarian for regular appointments at least every six months. Chihuahuas are susceptible to a number of health problems, particularly affecting their bones and joints. Ask your veterinarian about supplements that could benefit your chihuahua. Depending on his health situation, he may require a glucosamine or chondroitin supplement for joint health, or an omega-3 supplement for his skin and coat.

Do not allow your dog to jump off furniture or out of a car. Elderly chihuahuas are susceptible to bone fractures, so pick him up and place him gently on the ground.
