Yet finding interesting people to follow can be difficult if you don't have any family or friends who use the social network. This article will teach you how to find people to follow on Twitter using many different methods. You will learn how to find Twitterers based on interest and location as well as how to find popular Twitterers.

How to Find People to Follow on Twitter

1. Find people to follow on Twitter. Log into your Twitter account on the home page with your username and password. Once you are in your account, click on the "Find People" link on top of the page. Once you are on the Find People page, you can find people to follow in three different ways: find on Twitter, find on other networks or suggested users. To find people to follow by Twitter username, click on the "Find on Twitter" tab. A search box will appear. Type in the username of a Twitterer, and Twitter will display search results of people with that or similar usernames. You may also type a keyword into the search box on this page if you do not know any Twitter users you wish to follow. For instance, if you type in the keyword "writer" Twitter will display Twitter users with the word "writer" in either their username or bio. When you find someone you are interested in following, click on the username in the search results, and you will be taken to the person's profile page. Click on the "Follow" button under the person's username on his or her profile page to add the person to the list of people you follow on Twitter.

2. Find people to follow on other networks. To find people on other networks, go to the "Find People" page using the directions in step 1. Once on the page, click on the "Find on Other Networks" tab. After the page has loaded, choose the network from which you want to find other Twitter people to follow. You can choose to search for people in your Yahoo!, Gmail, AOL, Hotmail or MSN e-mail address book. Click on the e-mail account type you have on the left-hand side of the page, and enter your e-mail address and password in the boxes provided. Click on the "Continue" button on the bottom of the page when you are finished. Twitter will display your family and friends who have Twitter accounts in the search results. Check the boxes next to each Twitter user you desire to follow, then click "Add" to add them to the people you follow list.

3. Find people by suggested users. Go to the "Find People" page on Twitter by following the directions in step 1. Next, click on the "Suggested Users" tab. Twitter will display many users you may find interesting. If you find a user you would like to follow on the list, check the box by the person's username. You can select as many Twitterers from the list as you would like to follow. When you are done, click on the "Follow" button on the bottom of the page to add them to the list of people you follow.

4. Find people to follow on Twitter using Zeitbase (Twitter Search). Go to zeitbase at: http://www.twittersearch.com. Type in a keyword or interest, or place in the search box provided on top of the page. For instance, you may type "blog," "art" or "Indiana" into the search box. Hit the "Search" button to the right of the box. Zeitbase will typically display many pages of Twitter users who have tweeted about the word, mentioned it in his or her bio or have it in his or her username. If you find a person you want to add to the list of people you follow on Twitter, click on the person's username, located to the right of the icon, and a new page with the person's profile page will open. Click on the "Follow" button on the person's profile page if you want to add the Twitterer to your list.

5. Find people using Twitterholic. Go to Twitterholic at: http://www.twitterholic.com. The home page will display the 100 people on Twitter with the most followers. You may see up to 1,000 people with the most followers on Twitter by using the links on the bottom of the page. If you find someone you wish to follow, click on his or her username located directly to the right of the icon. You will be taken to a page that displays the Twitterer's profile page link and Web page link. To add someone to the list of people you follow, click on the link for his or her profile page, then click on the "Follow" button on the profile page.
