It is generally a good idea to have an anti-spyware program on your computer. If, however, you decide to delete an anti-spyware program from your computer, it is a simple process to remove it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

    Uninstalling Software on Windows XP

  1. Step 1

Ascertain the name of the anti-spyware program. This can usually be done by opening the program, clicking on Help, then About.

  2. Step 2

Go to the Start Menu, then click on the Control Panel. You will need administrator privileges to do this.

  3. Step 3

Click on Add or Remove Programs. A window will open to take inventory of your programs; this may take a moment.

  4. Step 4

When the list finishes loading, select your anti-spyware program from the list.

  5. Step 5

If you are offered the choice to either Change or Remove, choose to Remove (otherwise, click the only available choice). The uninstallation process will begin. Restart your computer when the process finishes.

  6. Uninstalling Software on Windows Vista

  7. Step 1

As in the XP instructions above, ascertain the name of the program.

  8. Step 2

Click on the Start Menu and select Control Panel.

  9. Step 3

Click on Programs, then select Programs and Features.

  10. Step 4

Select the anti-spyware program from the list and click Uninstall. You may be asked for confirmation or an administrator password. Confirm (or input password) if this is the case.

  11. Step 5

When uninstallation is complete, you may be prompted to restart your computer. Even if you're not prompted to do so, you should restart anyway.

Tips & Warnings
  • Uninstalling anti-spyware programs can leave your computer open to infections, so be aware of what you're doing. Be sure you are not uninstalling the wrong program.
