Things You'll Need:
- Cellophane wrap Filament tape Foam head Grease pencil Polyester cotton lace Blue paper Pins Scissors Finer lace Hackle Leather holding card Small fishing hook needle Comb Synthetic Hair
-
Step 1
Measure the client's head by wrapping cellophane around her head, twisting the cellophane next to the ear lobes.
-
Step 2
Place filament tape over the cellophane wrap, layering it four times to create a head cast to work with.
-
Step 3
Lift the cast off of the client's head and place it on the foam head.
-
Step 4
Use a grease pencil to trace the cast you prepared. Create the hairline on the foam block.
-
Step 5
Cut a piece of blue paper in the design you drew on the foam head and pin it on the foam head.
-
Step 6
Place a large piece of polyester cotton lace onto the foam head and cut it just around the outline of of the blue paper.
-
Step 7
Pin the cotton lace onto the foam head.
-
Step 8
Take a finer lace and pin it from the front of the foam head to the back of the foam head. Be sure to get the edges as well.
-
Step 9
Take out two colors of synthetic hair. Choose one base color and then one color for highlights.
-
Step 10
Put the base color of hair onto the hackle.
-
Step 11
Place the highlight hair onto the hackle.
-
Step 12
Drag the hair through the hackle to mix it. Twist and turn the tail of the hair to help mix the hair.
-
Step 13
When it is mixed, take the hair out of the hackle and cut any excess hair off. This will ensure that you have the best quality of hair for your wig.
-
Step 14
Put the hair onto the metal pins of the leather holding card. Interlock the top card with the bottom card.
-
Step 15
Take out a small amount of hair from the leather holding card with a small fishing hook needle.
-
Step 16
Knot the strands into the lace, like you would with a latch-hook rug. Begin down at the neck and work your way up to the forehead. This will make the wig look more real.
-
Step 17
Comb the hair on your wig when you have a handful put onto the wig.
-
Step 18
Cut the fine lace away so it will not show under the hair.
