Wash a Shower Liner

Shower curtain liners make life easier when you don't want to unhook the shower curtain every time someone takes a shower. But they have a tendency to get built up with soap scum and get moldy, especially if they are not fully extended when they're wet. Cleaning them is not hard, but takes a little time because to clean them right you must take them down and hang them up again. Depending on the use your shower gets, this should be done at least once a month. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Wash a Shower Liner

    • 1

Take shower curtain liner off the rod and lay flat on the floor with the inside of the liner facing up.

    • 2

Place some cleaner in a bucket or spray bottle. Put on some rubber gloves so the cleaner does not harm or dry out your hands. Sponge the cleaner onto the liner and remove the soap scum and as much of the mold as possible. Use the plastic scrubber to clean the spots of mold that would not come off with the sponge.

    • 3

Use clean water and the sponge to wipe off as much of the cleaner as possible. The rest you can rinse off in the shower. Hang the liner back on the rod in the shower.

    • 4

Rinse off with your shower sprayer if you have one. If not use a large cup, fill with the running water and pour down the liner. Rinse off all of the cleaner and loosed dirt.

    • 5

Holding the liner from the outside, sponge it down in sections. The outside is rarely very dirty, but if it is, wait until the inside drys and take it down again and repeat with the outside. Make sure to get the bottom of the liner inside the shower before starting to rinse.

Tips & Warnings

  • Shower liners can also be put in a washing machine on gentle cycle with laundry soap and bleach. Make sure to wash the liner by itself, as liners tend to hold the water in the creases of plastic and will make other things in the washer wetter than they should be.

  • Never put the liner in the dryer.
