How to Date Women

A Stroll on the Beach Can be a Great First Date

Whether you're dating for occasional companionship or to find that elusive LTR (long term relationship), you'll be more successful if you put some thought and effort into clarifying in your own mind what you want out of dating and how you will achieve it.

What constitutes a "successful" date is up to you. A simply enjoyable evening is a worthwhile goal. So is setting the stage for a romantic or sexual relationship (or better yet a romantic *and* sexual relationship). Whatever your goal, this article will help you achieve it.

Instructions

Do you want to truly enjoy yourself on a date? Work at it! Inviting people into your home to have a good time is called "entertaining" for a reason. Your first dates with a woman will almost certainly be in public places like restaurants, theaters, or outdoors--not in your home. But don't let that confuse you. When you invite a woman on a date her unspoken assumption (well, more like her unspoken hope) is that you will entertain her. To succeed at entertaining a woman you need two things.

First you should have an inventory of good date ideas: Dinner is the classic one, but which restaurants in your area are best for a first date? Sporting activities like bowling, tennis, hitting some balls at the driving range are also good. Your mission: find out the specifics like location, hours and costs (for your budget) before you ask her out. Create a list of good dating destinations in a word processing program or a notebook. Write down all of the details for each venue. Check Google Maps or Mapquest for directions.

Next step: Find out what she likes to do. What's her idea of a great first date? Even a film buff may not like going to the movies as a first date because you can't talk to each other while staring at the screen. What kind of food does she like best? Has she always wanted to try skeet shooting? Does she own a bicycle? Women, quite understandably, hate to be treated like they're interchangeable. Did you meet her through a mutual friend? Ask your friend what your dating prospect's interests and likes are. Do you know her from work? On Monday morning listen to what she says she did over the weekend--or what she wishes she had done. Of course you could always ask her outright but women tend to be more impressed when a guy seems to just know what she likes.

Finally, when you go on your date look sharp--even if she's a sweatshirt and jeans kind of girl. (She'll be wearing a sweatshirt and jeans that look great on her!) Even if a woman isn't too impressed with you and is not sure she even wants to see you on a regular basis, on a date she will still dress to attract you. (Maddening, isn't it?) If you look like you haven't made any effort to look good (and smell good, without being overpowering), she will interpret it as either ignorance or ineptitude on your part.

Postscript: Enjoy yourself! Don't agonize about every little thing. In fact don't agonize about anything. If you get a flat tire, if it rains when you were planning on being outside, if despite your best efforts she doesn't seem interested, take it in stride. If one date doesn't work out so be it. If you apply the ideas presented here you'll be able to get other dates with other women.

  • Oliver Wendall Holmes once said, "No generalization is worth a damn--including this one." You're sure to find more than one woman who contradicts every item of advice presented here. It doesn't mean the advice is bad. It means everybody is an individual. You just have to find one, after all.
